It’s a slow and sure launch of Sony’s new Xperia X line of smartphones. Of course the major Asian markets have it, but so does most of Europe and it may be the case that the United States will — sooner or way later.

India has a sure thing going for it with Amazon.in taking the online pre-orders for the Sony Xperia X. The 64GB model comes in black, white, lime gold and rose gold. Sony’s also offering its SBH70 Stereo Bluetooth Headset and some Rs. 2,700 in content from Amazon Kindle, Gameloft, Sony LIV and Hungama Play for free with the Xperia X.

Both that phone and the also-announced Xperia XA will come in dual-SIM configurations — quite critical in the subcontinent — and with a tough price tag.

The Xperia XA Dual, whenever sales will get started, will be Rs. 20,990 or $313. The Xperia X Dual as-is checks out for Rs. 46,990 or $699. In other words, about half an average Indian’s income. Fortunately, Amazon.in is offering finance plans lasting up to 12 months, though with APR.

The pre-order period ends June 7.
