We knew this day was coming. Ever since we heard of the worrying sales numbers, it was pretty certain to us that a discount was on the way for the phone we called “the right phone at the wrong price” in our full review. That deal is finally now official, the Amazon Fire Phone price cut dropping the device to just $199.99 off contract for the 32GB model.

The model at this price has no link to AT&T, not in the branding or anywhere else. It’s just a pure, GSM, unlocked smartphone that you can take to almost any carrier in the United States save for Verizon and Sprint.

As for whether we’d still recommend the phone? At this new price, and with a year of Amazon Prime baked-in to the asking price (a $99 value on its lonesome), it’s certainly not a bad deal. If you can live with the less-than-perfect software, you can’t go wrong at this low a price point. If you’re already an Amazon Prime customer, this is almost an impulse buy depending on how you look at it, considering that it’s just $100 with the Amazon Prime bundle considered.
