Amazon Black Friday sales underway in UK

Believe it or not, the pure commercial adrenaline that comes right out of American Thanksgiving has seemed to mean more to consumers across the pond than anywhere else. Well, at least for this year.

Amazon.co.uk has already kicked off pre-Black Friday sales of products from toys to TVs and a Wi-Fi router as well. This is nearly two weeks before November 25, the anointed Black Friday of 2016 and longer than the single week that Amazon is giving its US customers prior to the day.

Why? Well, The Guardian reports that Amazon is doubling the number of deals it offered last year and continue to beat out its competitors in doing so. That’s all while distributing a little more traffic across several more days to ease up on servers. High-street retailers and supermarkets have had to adapt with both revised brick-and-mortar and online strategies to cope.

Combine that with China’s own Singles’ Day festivities on November 11 — where the likes of Alibaba, Baidu and Taobao make the most money they get in a year — and it feels like the race to holiday retail burn-out keeps getting an earlier and earlier start.

No deals on phones just yet, but the sales period has only just started.
