Alcatel Onetouch introduces colorful, rugged Go Play phone

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the new-product announcements at IFA had died down; compared to earlier in the week, today brought only a trickle of new devices, and hardly the same sort of high-profile products as just a day or two back. But we’re far from done just yet, as tonight Alcatel Onetouch is introducing a bunch of new items, and we lead our coverage off with the Go Play smartphone.

The Go Play is designed to be an affordable handset that can survive some rough handling, and while it may not look like a full-on ruggedized model, it’s designed to be waterproof, dustproof, and shockproof enough to take a licking and keep on ticking.

While the Go Play only has a five-inch 720p screen, the combination of its 2500mAh battery and Snapdragon 410 SoC give the phone some solid battery life – up to 500 hours standby. Specs are decidedly mid-range (if on the lower side), with the phone getting just 1GB of RAM, 8GB storage (with the saving grace of microSD expansion available), and an 8MP/5MP camera pair. There’s LTE support, an FM radio tuner, and eight available color options for shoppers to choose from.

Alacatel Onetouch plans to share final pricing and availability info sometime in Q4.
