Acer’s “new and exciting holiday season lineup” just needed over an hour of pre-IFA marketing buildup in Berlin, but smartphone and wearable enthusiasts were disappointed to see Predator and Liquid families snubbed from the PC-packed event.
Not to worry, as two Liquid Z6 series handhelds got a lower-key official announcement via a bland press release, which is a shame, given one of the models doesn’t look half bad on paper.
The Acer Liquid Z6 Plus is a relatively slim and stylish upper mid-range Full HD 5.5-incher, reportedly fitted with a gigantic 4,080mAh battery, and further packing 3 respectable gigs of RAM. The 13 and 5MP cameras in tow here also sound appropriate for a €250 price point in EMEA, while an octa-core MediaTek 6753 processor is hardly a power user’s wet dream, but it’ll have to do. And it will, since a fingerprint scanner and 32GB internal storage complete the overall decent spec sheet.
As for the non-Plus Liquid Z6, affordability looks like its only selling point (€119 in EMEA), every single feature getting substantially downgraded, to a 5-inch 720p screen, MT6737 SoC, 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM, 8/2MP cams, and 2,000mAh battery.
Last and arguably least, the Acer Iconia Talk S is another one of those mediocre voice call-enabled 7-inch tablets advertised as a phablet (or 4G LTE “tablet and phone in one”), priced at €169, with HD screen resolution, mystery quad-core processor, 13MP main cam, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow on deck.
