Acer is just one of many already confirmed IFA 2016 exhibitors, and although we know the Taiwanese company plans to unveil its “new and exciting holiday season lineup” in Berlin, Germany on August 31, it’s going to need something special to stand out from the pack.
Preferably, not special weird, like last year’s Predator 8 and 6 gaming-centric tablet and phablet that never amounted to much in terms of post-release buzz and, presumably, sales and profits.
But alas, Acer’s most distinctive new product on display next week might well be another addition to the Predator family. This time, a “high-end smartwatch for the gaming market”, according to Chinese-language media gossip cited by the hit-and-miss rumormongers from Digitimes.
What does that even mean? It’s unclear, with literally no details shared by inside sources on Acer’s rookie smartwatch effort, the only forerunner we can think of as advertised “for gamers” being the easily forgettable Razer Nabu Watch.
Meanwhile, the Liquid Leap activity tracker should get a “smart wearable device” sequel at the same pre-IFA press gathering, with Asus and Samsung reiterated as themselves looking to roll out fresh new intelligent timepieces in a few days. The Gear S3, by the way, is again said to incorporate a bunch of advanced sensors, barometer and speedometer included.
