Laptop? Sure. Tablet? You bet. Touchy screen? We’re all keen. And with a price of only $399, we’d say that such a Chromebook has met its time.

The Acer Chromebook R13 is the Taiwanese OEM’s first such device to have the Google Play Store — you may know of that on cross-country competitor ASUS’s Chromebook Flip — straight from the box and the first to sport a MediaTek chip for the device class (a quad-core M8173C CorePilot unit, if you’re wondering).

The 13.3-inch IPS touchscreen is rated at full HD resolution and comes below a 720p webcam. Talking memory, there’s 4GB of RAM standard and storage choices of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB, though there’s no microSD card slot. Ports-wise, we have USB-C, — to charge the R13 or to let it provide charge to other devices — full USB 3.0, HDMI and a headphone jack. Bluetooth 4.0 is on-board as well as Wi-Fi ac with 2×2 MIMO radios. Acer estimates up to 12 hours of use on a single charge.

North America and the EMEA region will get the R13 starting in October for $399 or €399 where applicable.
