Inspired by the Apple Watch Force Touch and iPhone 6s 3D Touch (or not), Synaptics is preparing pressure sensitive screens which will allow Android OEMs to have smartphones that offer a similar functionality to Apple’s latest and greatest. Think of it as 3D Touch on Android; Huawei already announced that a “force touch”-enabled version of its Mate S will be available, but, at the moment, only these two products (with the iPhone 6s/6s Plus) offer you the option for this sort of interaction.

However, flagship Android smartphones in 2016 might come equipped with pressure sensitive screens from Synaptics, as the company made an official announcement unveiling its ClearForce technology. The products in the family are the 3700, 3600, and 7800 series, with the ClearPad 3700 and 7800 being already in mass production (ClearPad 3600 series will enter production alter in the year).

Synaptics 7800 Series:

  • Optimized for large touch screens up to 17.3 inches, including notebooks, tablets and automotive applications
  • Processing power that doubles previous generation large touch screen controllers, enabling advanced features and performance needed for larger smart devices
  • Features 1mm passive pen support and excellent palm rejection performance

ClearPad 3700 and 7800 series are both currently in mass production. ClearPad 3600 series is broadly sampling with mass production slated for Q4 2015.
