WiFi is hot. *grin* WiFi that works well is even better. And over the last week, this WiFi SD card has worked extremely well throughout all the tests I put it through.SETUP
Installation is fairly standard for any wireless card (Pocket PC or otherwise) on the market. Make sure that you install the drivers before installing the card. Not that it will cause you any problems (as I skipped that step as a test), it just won’t [...]
On top of that, TomTom has not only introduced new GPS hardware but software into (for them) a recently new market. TomTom Navigator USA hit the streets at the beginning of July 2003. The US market is new to TomTom, who until now, was one of the strongest players in the European only GPS market. Will TomTom Navigator USA be able to enter the new, US market with the same continued success that its european counterpart has? Will the hardware, both wired and [...]
Proporta has just announced a new addition to their already extensive line of leather cases.
This new case is crafted in soft leather features the popular flip-top style. It was custom designed for the Axim X3, in order to fit the countours of the device.
Very slight padding has been added to both the top and bottom flip for extra protection for the PDA, without adding too much extra bulk’. The secure holding system attaches directly onto the Axim X3 itself and the strong magnetic tongue fastening keeps the PDA safe and secure when not in use.
The Proporta [...]

Setup is via a win32 executable program as per most other Windows CE Applications. As with all Smartphone apps, you have the choice of installing to the phone or a Storage Card. I installed it to the storage card without a problem. The setup program also [...]
The Register has a relatively concise review of the Dell Axim x3i up.
“Dell is offering two versions of the x3: one with wireless and two without. We took a look at the former, the x3i. All three look essentially identical, with only a small antenna module on the top of the x3i to distinguish it from its siblings.”
HP has released an update to address several long-standing issues with the 555x iPAQ. SP25826 is an “XIP” update, which means it corrects these issues by changing segments of the ROM instead of loading patches into RAM. Not only does that conserve RAM space for the user, but it also means the updates won’t be lost in a hard-reset.
The fixes and enhancement contained in this latest update are as follows:
Fixes: Fingerprint Software Version 3.7: * Corrects where it allowed to select alphanumeric characters using the softkey with the “simple 4 [...]
It’s the first Phone Edition 2003 device to hit the market, and it’s also the first Pocket PC with a built in Phone and Bluetooth that can use a Bluetooth headset. I’ve been using it with a Nextlink Bluespoon Chameleon and it has been absolutely excellent. The built-in camera is an added bonus.
The Bluespoon Chameleon works beautifully with the i-mate Phone Edition.
The i-mate Phone Edition 2003 has a nice compromised form factor. It’s almost too small to hold in my hand, but [...]
If you own a Mac, using a Pocket PC isn’t easy. PocketMac allowed you to sync your Pocket PC with your Mac, but you couldn’t back it up to a Mac.
Information Appliance Associates has now fixed that. PocketMac Backup will back your Pocket PC up with several useful features:
* Selective backup of parts of your Pocket PC * Selective backup of your storage cards * Save backup files in Mac-style disk image (.dmg) files
PocketMac Backup costs $17.33 and requires you to have PocketMac or some other Mac sync program. More details are available if you [...]
Meritline has a large selection of Genuine Leather PDA Cases for $8 each using coupon code af-2off215. Among them are cases for the Dell Axim, HP iPAQ Series, and O2 XDA.
Are you a gamer longing to check out the Tapwave Helix, but put off because it uses the Palm OS? Well, fear not! A Windows CE gaming device called the Gametrac is getting ready to be introduced, and it looks awesome. A gaming machine with those cool looks might be enough, but there’s a lot more.
What you may ask? Well, how about the following:
* 3D Mophun gaming (see the link for details) * SMS text messaging (with predictive input) * MP3 music (with remote download) * MPEG4 video playback * A built-in digital camera * GPS tracking * Bluetooth for [...]
The Samsung SCH-i600 CDMA Smartphone is available now. I got the chance to try one at my local Verizon store. So what did I think?
Well, I think it’s very cool. I like clamshell phones, and this seems like a good one. The size wasn’t bad, and the keypad felt decent. The two “soft” buttons were a bit difficult to hit all the time because the home and back buttons are right below them.
Just for fun, I took my 256 MB SD card out of my iPAQ 3870 and put it in the i600. I started playing some Linkin Park and one woman in the store thought that [...]
The ThinkOutside Stowaway Infrared Wireless Keyboard is available. It looks like the Stowaway XT, but with the Pocket PC on the left of the keyboard instead of the center.
It’s compatible with the following Pocket PCs:
* iPAQ 1900, 2200, 3600, 3700, 3800, 3900, 4100, 5100, 5400, 5500 * Dell Axim X5 * Toshiba e330, e350/355, e740, e750/755 * Microsoft smartphones XDA/MDA
It’s priced at $69.99. The source link will give full specifications.
I like the fact that it will work with Pocket PCs from different vendors. I don’t like that [...]
The GSMK CryptoPhone 100 could be the most expensive Pocket PC Phone available. At $1800, you get what looks like an XDA running a slim version of Pocket PC Phone Edition with voice encryption.
It comes in a sealed box to ensure that it hasn’t been tampered with. Of course, to call somebody else securely, they need another CryptoPhone. Fortunately, there seems to be a Windows version available for your desktop or laptop.
So, do we have any CIA or NSA employees here that need a phone like this? If you won’t have to kill us to talk about it, post your [...]
Here’s another entry into the crowded Pocket PC Phone Edition market. The Asus My 8100 will have Windows Mobile 2003, what appears to be a sliding keyboard and Bluetooth.
The source link will give you a bit more information, but there aren’t many details available. So what do you think? Is the Pocket PC Phone Edition market getting too crowded? Share your thoughts in the discussion.

Voice control is always hot in my book. But accurate voice control is even better. Microsoft Voice Command does an excellent job in the accuracy field. While not completely on all the time, it certainly does a better job that a certain voice command software (which came with my iPaq 3835) did.SETUP
Installation is fairly straightforward. Two things of note: Microsoft Voice Comand must be installed into the main system [...]
A while back, I wrote a review of a way cool, permanent, in-vehicle mounting system for your PDA called the Road Writer. The product was from a company called revolv Design, and its CEO was Michael Shawver. Shortly after the review went live over at The Gadgeteer, Michael had to take the company, and the web site off line, to everyone’s great disappointment.
I have some good news: revolv Design is back in action with all of their old product’s actively supported and available for sale!
I spent a while talking with Michael on the phone yesterday, and while he [...]
The ‘Titanium’ of course, is what drew my attention to this case. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of hearing about aluminum cases – and I don’t care if its aircraft grade. What happens to a thin aluminum can if you step on it? CRUNCH. What happens to a Pocket PC in a slightly thicker aluminum case? You guessed it. That’s why I’m liking the titanium, which is a much much stiffer, and stronger, and lighter, and [...]
Well, my iMATE Phone Edition XDA II arrived this morning. It is quite an amazing little device! It seems the ones being sold in the UAE are the only SIM unlocked ones which can be used on any network. O2 and T-Mobile are selling theirs locked. Using a bluetooth headset with the XDA II is a joy! A week previous to today I thought I’d upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003 on my iPAQ 3970 and use a bluetooth Ericsson r520 phone with it. I am so happy to be back to a fully integrated all-in-one device!
Good news! The iPAQ h4350 Pocket PCs are finally starting to roll out. The pocketnow.com store has them in stock and ready for same day shipping.
