Windows Phone has strong ties with Microsoft’s online offerings like XBOX Live and Zune. Without these, the Windows Phone experience is crippled to say the least so Microsoft should put some effort and make key online services available outside of the U.S.
We’ve heard that the Australian Zune Marketplace was in testing and more recently, a Canadian Zune user was able to purchase music from Zune. This might be something you are used to doing on your phone or PC on a daily basis if you live in the U.S. but those up north were greeted with a “not available in this region” error message whenever they tried to.
This might as well be a bug that Microsoft will soon iron out but it could also be Redmond expanding its Music offering to other regions. Such a move will make the platform more popular, help it gain market share and give it a real boost. If you live in Canada, let us know if you managed to purchase a song from Zune.
