Just about all of Apple’s latest iPhone commercials have been advertising their speech interface called “Siri”. Windows Phone has a speech interface built into the operating system as well, but it’s more limiting and commands-based and certainly not as conversational or as fun as Siri. The Boston Herald took a spin with a new Windows Phone speech interface in the form of a third party app called “Ask Ziggy”. The app was made by just one guy, Shai Leib, and has some definite advantages over Siri and certainly is an improvement to the default Windows Phone speech engine in many ways. The implementation could be a lot better if it was allowed more integration in the operating system, but the developer has found a way to add reminders to your calendar by authorizing the app to access your Windows Live account and also by adding Live tiles to the start screen. In the “What can I say” section of the app you’ll find a huge list of different types of information that you can ask Ziggy about.
