Microsoft was looking for a Software Engineer — the position has already been filled — via a posting on Microsoft Careers from which we understand that Windows Phone will probably get backup and restore functionalities in the year to come.
With Mango, Microsoft managed to bring a lot of missing features to the table but the ability to backup and restore in a convenient way is still missing. The person who filled the spot will be part of the Windows Phone Backup, Migrate and Restore team and will focus on delivering a way for users to “quickly and seamlessly get their phone back to a good state”. This will be part of the “next version” of Windows Phone and, while we are expecting Tango to land at the beginning of the next year, we might have to wait until Apollo for the feature to be included.
