Windows Phone 7 App Showcase: Polyglot

We were recently tipped to a new Windows Phone 7 app called “Polyglot”. This is a pretty basic text translation program with a text to speech feature for the pronunciations. It’s powered by Microsoft translator, and has a decent design. There are two vertical input panels with scrollable language selectors on the left. Select a language to translate from, then a language to translate to, type some text, and hit the translate button. Unfortunately, the keyboard’s automatic prediction features are not enabled in this apps text fields and there isn’t a whole lot you can do with the translated text. You can’t copy/paste it into an email/txt, you can’t send it in an email/txt, and there isn’t even a history listing for bringing up previous translations. Overall, we’ve seen better, but the app does perform pretty well with its limited functions.

There’s a free trial of the app which gives you 7 translations. To buy the app and enable unlimited translations, it will cost $0.99 USD.
