For what we expected to be a pretty mediocre Windows Phone for a 2nd generation device a couple months ago, the HTC Radar 4G turned out to be quite a nice device, and the sales seem to be agreeing with us. The HTC Radar is the 3rd top selling phone on T-Mobile USA during both November and December of 2011 according to the Canaccord Genuity monthly channel checks. The Samsung Galaxy S II was T-Mobile’s top seller for those two months followed by the HTC Amaze, both Android phones. The other three top carriers in the U.S. have very similar top selling phones. Number 1 on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint is the Apple iPhone 4S. While the Samsung Galaxy S II variants take 2nd place on AT&T and Sprint.
Windows Phone obviously still has a long way to go to compete with the iPhone and Android phones, but Microsoft is really only looking to be the “3rd ecosystem” right now anyway. It looks like they may have at least achieved that on T-Mobile U.S. which is pretty good considering all the stories we hear of carrier sales people steering customers away from Windows Phone even if they went into the store wanting one.
