The alleged Windows Phone 7 QWERTY slider from Sony Ericsson which appeared this weekend is simply a prototype that was killed last year, according to a tweet from Mobile-Review. Mobile-Review is the site run by ultimate insider Eldar Murtazin, who has correctly predicted everything from the specs and model number of the Galaxy S II to the unbelievable Microsoft-Nokia tieup.
While SE was initially announced as a WP7 hardware partner back at Mobile World Congress 2010, the company hasn’t made any public acknowledgement of a desire to support the platform at present. Instead, the joint venture seems solely focused on its Android smartphones — CEO Bert Nordberg was recently quoted as saying that his company hopes to eventually capture a full 25% of that market. Microsoft, meanwhile, has a giant new partner in Espoo, making the need for Sony Ericsson devices much less critical than a year ago.
