The Japanese-Sweedish joint venture Sony Ericsson already had a Windows Mobile powered device, the Xperia X1, to prove they have what it takes to make it even though manufactured in close collaboration with HTC.
According to Microsoft UK’s head of marketing, Oded Ran, Sony Ericsson is working on at least one Windows Phone 7 device. Nothing else was mentioned about this neither from Microsoft’s nor Sony Ericsson’s side but joint venture’s CTO Jan Uddenfelt stated that “Android is definitely our focus, but we have not given up on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system, although it had a bit slow to take off. But Windows 7 Phone is on the roadmap”. This, together with the fact that they’ve announced that no more Symbian devices will be produced might lead to some surprises ending up with another Windows Phone 7 player to enter the game besides HTC, LG, Samsung, Dell and Asus.
