Do you wish you could create folders on your start screen in Windows Phone, letting you group together some of the apps you use most? So far, in order to pull of a stunt like that, you’d need an unlocked phone and some custom homebrew code. Perhaps Microsoft has realized that a feature like that may be one worth implementing officially, as we’ve heard a new rumor that suggests such a thing may make it into the upcoming Tango software update.

The last we heard about Tango, its focus would be on adding support for new hardware options for budget-priced Windows Phone gear. Earlier, we thought that LTE might not arrive until the update, but that’s turning out not to be the case. In fact, one rumor has suggested that Tango will be so laser-focused on support for low-end hardware, it wouldn’t even be distributed for other handsets. Today’s claims seem to contradict that theory; we’ll just have to wait to see exactly how these updates are delivered.

Beyond the addition of folders for grouping-together apps, Tango would also supposedly change the platform’s media player controls. If you felt that the interface in Mango simply took up too much screen real estate, this change should be to your liking, as we hear it will shrink controls down to a more manageable size. We haven’t seen any screenshots yet showing-off just how the new system might look; hopefully something will leak out to give us a little preview.
