Say what you will about Nokia’s recurring struggles to rid its Lumia series of Windows Phone handsets of some annoying bugs, but there’s little denying the amount of effort the company’s put in to raising the platform’s profile and stirring-up interest from new users. Part of Nokia’s plan to drive attention to its Lumia phones centers on bringing its users the latest and greatest apps; to that end, the company just announced a number of partnerships with developers, some bringing exclusive content to Lumia models.
The apps Nokia discussed include a mix of new titles and updates to existing apps. Even in the case of the latter, there’s the still the opportunity for Nokia to get exclusives, like how the new Groupon update with an augmented reality mode will only available be on Lumia phones for its first six months. Other exclusive titles include the upcoming PGA Tour app, ESPN Fantasy Football this fall, and AOL’s Entertainment Hub.
Beyond the exclusives, Nokia also talked about some high-profile titles hitting Windows Phone in general, like Rovio’s Angry Birds Space. Nokia says that Rovio has changed its tune on the platform, and future release will be targeted for ports as quickly as can be managed. Other companies Nokia singled-out for their work with Windows Phone development include Box, PayPal, TripDots, Electronic Arts, Time, and Newsweek.
