On February 11 Nokia announced the strategic alliance with Microsoft that would make the Finnish company adopt Windows Phone 7 as its primary smartphone strategy. Today, ten weeks later, Nokia and Microsoft have signed the definitive agreement for the “strategic partnership to build a new global mobile ecosystem that is unlike any other”.
Reportedly teams are already working together on a multi-year product roadmap and everything seems to be on track in order to deliver volume shipments in 2012 “although the pressure is on for first delivery in 2011″. The new alliance seems to inherit the concept Microsoft is trying to build upon: Developers! Developers! Developers!
Espoo and Redmond promise “unique innovation and differentiation across hardware, software and services as the Nokia products using Windows Phone roll-out”. All the excitement in the PR aside, what the market and consumers need is a capable Windows Phone sporting top notch hardware, great camera and a platform that is not lacking behind. Do you think the alliance can deliver? And when?
