There definitely has to be some fire here as the smoke keeps coming out! Some two weeks ago, initial rumors of Microsoft being interested in acquiring Nokia’s mobile unit popped up just for them to be quickly denied by a Nokia official.

A couple of days ago, the same man, Eldar Murtazin has tweeted that Microsoft allegedly closed a $19 billion deal with Nokia. We don’t know of any other small software company and small phone vendor Murtazin recently talked about. So, in addition to the initial rumor, we now have an alleged confirmation with a price tag attached.

On a huge contrast note, Stephen Elop, Nokia’s CEO strongly denied these rumors qualifying them unequivocally as “baseless”. The statement is rather recent, Stephen Elop being interviewed on stage by Walt Mossberg of All Things Digital.

Whether there was a deal or not, neither party is rushing in with an official Press Release though, if the information turns out to be true, we might expect some official wording soon. But, “there’s absolutely no discussions! The rumors are baseless”, says Elop.
