We’ve told you that Windows Phone 7 Mango update will be called Windows Phone 7.5 from a slide presented at this year’s MIX11. Microsoft has neither officially confirmed nor denied the information but Brandon Watson took the matter into his own hands.
The Microsoft Director for Windows Phone 7 has tweeted the above, saying that “no version number has officially been announced”, in response to someone asking about Mango and Windows Phone 7.5. While Watson is definitely right, a version number was not announced, we suspected by the build numbers floating around — and rumors around them — that Mango will be Windows Phone 7.5.
From a marketing standpoint, it wouldn’t make too much sense to change Windows Phone 7 to Windows Phone 7.5 but then again, Microsoft always refers to the platform as Windows Phone (sans numbers). That might be a good explanation and approach.
