Windows Phone 7 handsets were reported missing from initial stocks once the operating system was officially launched with devices being available starting October 21. Many operators world-wide that were supposed to have handsets ready at device launch dates were not able to successfully satisfy potential customers.

While devices shortages were mainly attributed to manufacturers and their component parts, looks like actually the shortage was referring to out-of-stock situations because of how well the newly launched platform was regarded from the very beginning. Digitimes has spoken to several manufacturers to find out that HTC, Samsung and LG made handsets were selling very well. This can be an early success indicator for Microsoft with the upcoming U.S. device availability date of November 8 but it might as well mean that all European hardcore Microsoft fans jumped fences to grab a new Windows Phone 7 handset. Let’s wait and see if Americans will continue the trend.
