Are we seeing the beginning of a new day for Windows Phone 7 updates? First, the promised security update, revoking compromised SSL certificates, arrived right on schedule, and now it seems that the HTC Surround is receiving its NoDo-related updates already, about a week earlier than we had anticipated.
Microsoft just changed the status for the HTC Surround’s two updates – the pre-NoDo February update as well as March’s NoDo itself – Wednesday, finally moving forward to the scheduling phase of their release. From that point, the company estimated up to another 10 business days until the updates would actually become available to users, and in the past it’s seemed to need most if not all of those 10 days. Seeing them arrive just four business days later is nothing short of amazing.
If you’ve got a Surround, check to see if you’ve received notification of a pending update, then hook your smartphone up to your PC to have Zune download and install NoDo. Microsoft still shows the update as scheduling, but reports from multiple Surround users on AT&T confirm the news. Welcome to the party; better late than never!
