We got our first looks at two unreleased HTC Windows Phone 7 smartphones, the Prime and Ignite, all the way back in March. The Ignite looked like your standard WP7 slate, while the Prime had a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The Ignite, at least, we heard could be arriving sometime in mid-2011, but there’s been no sign of it as of late. That is, until Dutch smartphone retailer The Phone House updated its “coming soon” page to include the pair.
While The Phone House provides release dates for many of its expected models, the Prime and Ignite, like the iPhone 5, have no specific date assigned to them. In fact, the retailer seems to have next to no information on these models. Even the pictures it’s using are the same ones we saw all the way back in March, just rotated differently.
So, these two HTC Windows Phone 7 smartphones may be coming to Europe in the near future; will they beat Mango to release? At this point, it seems odd to usher in new WP7 hardware on NoDo with the updated OS right around the corner, but we’re not going to dismiss the possibility. There’s also the very real chance that these two will come right out of the gate with Mango installed. We’ll be keeping an eye on other European retailers to see if any others add the Prime or Ignite to their lineups, hopefully with some more information this time.
