We haven’t really seen that much about the Marketplace in Windows Phone 7 though it is rumoured that applications will not be accepted to the Markeplace ealier than first week of October. Same way the platform was being tested from the Updates point of view we now have the opportunity to see how Marketplace might look.
The pictures are nothing like the screenshots of the Marketplace from MWC and looking at the three above gives us mixed feelings. We can guess the Marketplace Apps will be grouped in categories named Featured, Top, New and Free where in a rather straightforward way these categories are rather self explanatory.
Can’t help but notice (once again) the simplicity and tidyness of Metro if you look at the first picture where you will see Featured Microsoft apps looking neat, crisp and following the UI general layout and guidelines for the icons. Now compare that to the application list in the second picture, filed under the category of New and you’ll see lots of clutter and visual anarchy. Icons are in different colors and maybe even sizes, which is so unlike Metro. Leaving the TEST APP label aside, which most probably will be dropped with the official release, we really hope to see the guidelines being strictly applied to the Marketplace and the aspect of the apps entered since this is the first contact between the user and the app and quite honestly it might be a deal winner or breaker from this point.
Since neither Windows Phone 7 nor its features and services are in their final stage, we’re curious to see, maybe one month or so from now, how the actual (final) Marketplace will look compared to the pictures above. What do you think about how the Marketplace looks today and do you think it will be closer to the MWC screenshots in its final stage?
