How HTC and Samsung Look at Their Windows Phone 7 Futures

Whether Windows Phone 7 will manage to save Microsoft’s mobile fame and get it back to the top is yet unknown but it looks like with the new operating system out, device manufacturers are getting more and more excited, placing bigger bets on the Windows Phone 7 cards.

In a recent interview for AsiaOne News, HTC Thailand country manager Nattawat Woranopakul said HTC “will be focused on both Android- and Windows Phone 7-based smart phones. These platforms have the biggest potential market. It is expected that by 2012, the combination of Android and Windows Phone 7 will represent a major part of the world smart-phone market”. The Taiwanese company already has a five-device Windows Phone 7 line-up (even if stocks are low) and we can expect some more next year.

Samsung on the other hand seems to go “all-in” when it comes to Microsoft’s new mobile platform as Sitthichoke Nopchinabutr, head of mobile marketing in Thai Samsung Electronics’ Telecommunication Unit, mentioned Samsung will introduce 15 to 20 new smartphones models — take that for a near future line-up — using Android, Windows Phone 7 as well as its own Bada operating system. “For every 50 smartphones using Windows, it will make 24 using Android and five using Bada”. Just for the sake of numbers, that’s 63.3% for Windows Phone 7, 30.4% for Android and 6.3% for Bada. With the Korean company already on a winning streak with the Galaxy S (and who knows about the refresh or the Nexus S), we might expect some great Windows Phone 7 hardware to arrive next year.
