Yesterday the Facebook app for Windows Phone was updated to version 2.3. While most people will be fine with the integrated Facebook support built into Windows Phone, same may want more. That’s where the official Facebook app comes in. It features a totally new user interface design which makes it the best looking Facebook app on any mobile device. The personalized banner background photos really look fantastic.
You can still pin secondary live tiles for your inbox messages and nearby checkins, but the events section is gone. There is an events item in the news feed filter, but it doesn’t seem to load anything. Fortunately you can still see all of the Facebook events you were invited to in the normal Windows Phone Calendar where you can also respond to them, see the wall, and read all the details.
Of course it still supports push notifications if you want to be notified of every little thing that happens on Facebook since the native Windows Phone Facebook support only keeps a quiet running tally of notifications in the “Me” tile. Being able to manually specify which list of people you want your updates to be visible to is also a welcome addition.
Overall if you need a little more than what the native Facebook integration offers on Windows Phone, the official Facebook app will not disappoint.
