Way back in February, a leaked Dell roadmap outlined the company’s plans for smartphones throughout 2011 and into 2012. The Dell Streak Pro, which we just heard about being planned for Japan, matches up with the Dell Millennium from that roadmap. Not every model listed, though, has shown signs of making its way towards release. Sometime in Q3 or Q4, Dell was planning to come out with a new Windows Phone handset, the Dell Wrigley. It’s been ages since we’ve heard anything about it, but couldn’t it just pop up unexpectedly one day? It’s not looking like that’s going to happen, with unofficial word out of Dell calling the phone canceled.
We haven’t had high hopes for the Wrigley since Dell wasn’t mentioned among the hardware partners at Microsoft’s May Mango event. Still, that could have meant that the phone wouldn’t be among the first group of Mango phones to arrive, maybe waiting until 2012 to debut. Apparently there were some rumblings earlier this week that the Wrigley might actually show up in India, but those won’t apparently pan out.
WPCentral reports the information coming from a “higher up” at Dell, and was told that there’s no Wrigley on the way, and no Mango device (currently) planned for both this year and next year. While the Venue Pro will still be supported, it looks like Dell is done with Windows Phone for the time being.
