Whatever the Dell Venue Pro did to upset the smartphone gods, its period of penance may be starting to wrap up, as the Windows Phone 7 device looks like it’s finally going to be available to customers in Great Britain, going up for sale on Dell’s UK site.
If you haven’t been following the phone’s rocky history, the Venue Pro ran into delays in the US, with not enough stock to meet customer orders. Those who did manage to get their phones reported bugs ranging from problems reading SIM cards to an inability to connect to protected WiFi networks. Although Dell eventually started getting more out in 2011 (though still troubled by bugs), the UK hasn’t been as lucky. We’ve seen the release window pushed back over and over, supposedly due to problems with the phone’s support for MMS.
As of today, you can submit an order with Dell for an unlocked Venue Pro, with the caveat that phone still won’t be available for another 10 days. We hope we’re not off in reading Dell’s sale of the phone as evidence that these delays are finally coming to a close. If we’re looking at retail availability sometime around March 10, that jives with a change to Clove’s page for the Venue Pro, which has been updated from reading “First stock delayed until early March” to “mid March“.
