It is well-known that Compal Communications is manufacturing Windows Phones for Nokia and Acer; we knew that since the company officially became Windows Phone 7 ODM back in June. Now, according to recent reports, Compal is increasing shipments and it can be mainly due to Nokia.
After shipping initial Windows Phones to Nokia back in September, the total number of units shipped from January through September was at 2.1 million. The company is expected to ship over 600,000 handsets in November compared to 200,000 delivered last month. While the exact numbers for the fourth quarter of the year are yet unknown, Compal is expected to more than double this unit number for the first quarter of 2012 mainly because of Nokia’s target to ship volumes. We’re still expecting to see official numbers regarding the Lumia-line but, with pre-orders selling out early, the phones are enjoying great reception.
