Yesterday we saw the effect of using the Windows Phone 7 diagnostic code on a Dell Venue Pro, unveiling a hidden Matrix-like screen but not really providing any diagnostic tools, let alone a way to tether the handset as with the Samsung Focus. Further experimentation with the phone has revealed that past the Matrix screen there is indeed a functional diagnostic mode, but still apparently no way to tether.
The code dialed to access any of these modes seems to be consistent across WP7 handsets. Keying in ##634# brings up the Matrix screen on the Venue Pro, and that’s all it seemed to do. Richard, the same Venue Pro user who tipped off WMPoweruser to the existence of that screen yesterday has uploaded a new video where he shows the phone continuing past the Matrix screen into a proper diagnostic menu.
There still seems to be more to accessing this mode than Richard’s videos reveal, as both his original upload along with today’s update show him entering the same code, but only getting to the diagnostic mode in the latter. This second time there’s also an app called EM installed on the phone, which when launched brings up the same diagnostic screen. Richard describes this app showing up after successfully using the ##634# code, but there may be more to its presence on the Venue Pro and the phone’s ability to run diagnostics.
