AT&T is kicking off the Windows Phone 7 release of its U-verse Mobile app with a free preview, letting the company’s mobile customers watch its library of programing from their smartphones without charge for 30 days.
All new WP7 handsets sold through AT&T will come pre-loaded with the app, and if you sign in to U-verse Mobile through one before the end of the year, AT&T will give you a free month of access to U-verse shows. After that trial, continued access will cost you $10 a month.
The app looks like an even better deal if you’re also using U-verse for television at home, as subscribers to the lower-end tiers will get that free U-verse Mobile trial extended through the end of January. Higher-end U-verse users get the best deal of all, with continuing free access to programming. In addition to serving up downloads, U-verse Mobile will also let home U-verse users remotely configure their DVRs.
Just like with the existing versions of the mobile app, you’ll have to connect over WiFi to actually download any episodes you plan on watching. That might not be the best setup for impromptu viewing, but with a little forethought you should be able to build up a nice little entertainment catalog on your phone for when the mood to watch strikes you.
