One of the cool features coming in Android 2.3, also known as Gingerbread, is the addition of a screen-off animation. Turning off the display will result in an animation similar to what you would experience when shutting off a CRT monitor or an older TV. Yes, it’s totally useless, but it looks awesome on a smartphone.
Well, Jaxbot, from XDA-Developers, just released an app to reproduce the transitional effect for Windows Mobile devices. As you can see in the video below, it responds quickly and looks a lot like the animation found on Android 2.3. Unfortunately, it lags terribly on older Windows Mobile handsets, so you’ll need something with a bit of juice, like the HTC HD2. Head over to XDA-Developers for the download and more information.
