3.7-inch WVGA screen, 256MB RAM, and 8GB of storage space, those are the specs of the Nokia Lumia 610 which was introduced at this year's MWC as the Finnish manufacturer's budget Windows Phone offering, though it should be even cheaper in order to compete with some low-end/mid-range/budget Android phones. If you live in the U.K. and you've got your eyes on either the cyan, magenta, white or black variants of the Lumia 610, you should prepare to welcome it in the first week of June. While there was no information made public about the contract-free (SIM-free) price, the phone should cost ...

We're no strangers to learning about the existence of upcoming Windows Phone hardware when in-testing devices occasionally pop-up on apps like WP Bench. Most recently, a whole bunch of phones self-identifying as Nokia models have started appearing in its database, but there's a good deal of controversy over which, if any, might be real hardware, and which could be the work of hoaxers. According to WP Bench, the Nokia Phi, Nokia Pure Phi, Nokia Alpha, and Nokia PureLamda have run the app. Those names are very interesting, especially as we've been wondering just when and how Nokia's PureView ...

Goggle's not the only game in town with an update for a social networking app today. Windows Phone users can now check out the latest edition of their platform's Facebook app, with Microsoft just releasing version 2.5. There are quite a few changes waiting for you in Facebook 2.5. Keeping track of Facebook messages should get a whole lot easier, upon the introduction of full-threaded conversations. That will work with both one-on-one and group messaging. Tagging options give you new ways to include your friends in posts and status updates, and you'll now have the ability to "like" comments ...

A heck of a lot factors in to what makes up a good camera, from the lens, to the sensor size, sensor type, and digital post-processing. We try not to over-simplify things and look only at raw megapixel count, but there's no denying that the figure has a substantial effect on how we view cameras. We're thinking about these issues today because of some news to come out of Nokia, suggesting that follow-up PureView phones won't have the 808's same massive 41-megapixel image sensor. Even before we knew that the 808 would eventually see U.S. sales, we knew that PureView technology would be ...

The latest IDC numbers are in and they seem to further confirm the trends not just only for those who closely follow the numbers but also for those who follow the industry and what happens in this fast-moving world. Not much has changed at the top of the mobile world, in terms of top six smartphone Operating Systems; Android and iOS are sitting comfortably in the highest positions. Google and Apple have both consolidated their position. Android has a market share of 59.0% in 2012 Q1 (growing from 2011 Q1's 36.1%, with increased shipments from 36.1 million units to a whopping 89.9) while ...

You really shouldn't be surprised! It's not that there were no warning signs along the way. Microsoft made it very clear that you will not be able to use the Windows Phone Marketplace once the changes are in place and your phone is still running a version of Windows Phone below 7.5. So, as of recently, if you can't download, buy, update, or review apps in Marketplace -- both on the phone and on the web-- it's because you didn't update to Windows Phone 7.5. Of course, you might be running an earlier build of the platform and still be able to access the Marketplace; this will soon change as ...

We all knew that lowering the bar on Windows Phone memory requirements would mean incompatibility with some apps, but so far the consequences haven't been overly jarring. Earlier this year, Skype finally came to Windows Phone, but did so along with caveat that the app wasn't compatible with 256MB handsets. Nokia didn't like the sound of how that would affect users of its Lumia 610, and announced that it would see what it could do about that, eventually making the app available for download. About a month later, and with the 610 now launched in China, Nokia's changing its tune, and deciding ...

ZTE broke into the Windows Phone game with the release of its Tania handset earlier this year. We've already seen the phone arrive in some European markets, featuring a 4.3-inch WVGA display, 4GB of internal flash storage, a five-megapixel camera, and a 1GHz processor. That all made for a perfectly respectable Windows Phone handset, not even considering that this was ZTE's first foray onto the platform. As the Tania gets ready to make its debut in China, it seems that ZTE is already moving on to bigger and better hardware, stepping-up from 1GHz to a 1.4GHz SoC. Currently running a ...

The original Samsung Focus was a Windows Phone 7 "Series" launch device back in 2010, and it helped to set the pace for what has been a very warm reception of Microsoft's new mobile platform. The Focus was great because it was thin and light, had fantastic performance, and had a particularly high level of screen sensitivity, which made navigation super fluid. Overall, it did Windows Phone justice. When Samsung and AT&T announced the Focus 2, we had high expectations. While not the most impressively-spec'ed phones on the market, the Focus 2 has a capable 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU ...

Most new-phone launches go the same way: usually the press gets review units before they're widely available, and we get to use them for a few days -or a week if we're lucky- as we work on our review. Then press day arrives. The embargo on media coverage lifts, and everyone posts their reviews and videos at the same time. It's a huge frenzy, commenters go nuts, and it's a giant explosion of frantic opinion-sharing activity. For about ... a day. And then it all goes away. Sure, there's followup coverage as people find bugs and hidden features, but after that initial blast, not many people ...

Samsung announced the Focus 2 Windows Phone on May 7 and promised to make it available starting May 20 so if you want to start your week off by getting a new device you should really look into this one. There's a four-inch Super AMOLED screen with WVGA resolution, five-megapixel camera with HD 720p video recording capability, and VGA webcam for video calls and Skype but the most important bit is that the phone supports 4G LTE connectivity. You can get all this for $49.99 given that you sign a two-year contract with AT&T if you somehow don't fancy the Nokia Lumia 900 or the HTC Titan ...

Those who know my work know that I've been a big fan of Windows Phones since I first got my hands on a Samsung Taylor developer prototype.  There are a lot of reasons to love Windows Phone, but as you might expect with any technology there can also be some frustrations.  In this article we'll talk about a few annoyances about Windows Phone that I personally have been frustrated with, however if you're also a Windows Phone user, we'd love to hear about a few of your frustrations in the comments at the bottom of the page. The first big thing about Windows Phone that frustrates me every day ...

Sorry folks, it's not available in the U.S.! With that one now out of the way we will remind you that Nokia Reading is the Finnish manufacturer's digital reading app and library for Windows Phone with e-book reading feature as well as RSS reader functionality which even allows you to pin publications to the home screen. Russia, U.K., Germany, Italy, France and Spain were rumored to be among the first regions to get the application and it is now available in the Marketplace's Nokia Collection section on Lumia 900, 800, 710, and 610 Windows Phones. If you have one of the aforementioned ...

Microsoft and its OEM partners (especially Nokia, but not only) knew that China is a market to aim for, not just because of the fact that it is now the world's largest mobile market, but because of the specifics of the country. Windows Phone was launched in China on March 21 this year and it is already, according to reports, outselling Apple and its iPhone. Of course we need to be fair and consider that this might have less to do with the platform itself and more (everything) to do with the difference in price between Windows Phones and iPhones. However, Microsoft's platform is now ...
