  • Screen Issues Somewhat Resolved
    • OK so one downside of having an X1 is that a lot of programs will not run perfectly (yet) because of such a high screen resolution... so I have a temporary fix (from xda) that will allow you to run programs like; Skyfire, Slingbox mobile, many many games, and others that will not run on 480x800 resolution. So here is what you do
  1. Download WVGA FIX 2
  2. Sync your X1 to your computer
  3. Copy the two files in the zip to your device
  4. Run both cab files
  5. Start "VmodeSwitch" under programs
  6. Select VGA and click the select button
  7. Install and run other programs that before would not run.
  • Change Panel Backgrounds Easily
    • If you replace the files 00v-09v and 00h-09h you can select the backgrounds from the dropdown list in the settings, matching the colours:
00 - Black
01 - Silver
02 - Ocean
03 - Turquoise
04 - Green
05 - Yellow
06 - Orange
07 - Red
08 - Purple
09 - Venus
  • When you select the background in the settings, a matching thumbnail for the panel will be created with the custom background.
  • There you have it just a temporary fix to some little screen issues. Also the zoom for Skyfire on the X1 is much more usefull because of the optical mouse. Enjoy!

  • Another Way to Edit your Panel Images:
    • The panel pictures are just static images while the panel loads up, if you notice the fish clock says 11/03/08 06:18 and the Sony panel is New York 10:10 etc
    • These are really simple to change. (Back up the originals though)
    • The pictures are .bmp format and a similar size. Each panel has 4 images -
Portrait Large (240x350),
Portrait small (120x175)
Landscape Large (400x190)
Landscape small (200x95)
They are located in Programm Files eg Programes/Panel/3DFishPanel (sometimes within a Images folder)
  • Open the file properties using Total Commander CE or similar file explorer and unhook the SYSTEM property.
  • Delete the file (or rename it for backup).
  • Copy the new file.
  • Done!
  • The ARCHIVE properties doesn't matter. It's just a flag for backup software to know that the file is used since the last backup.

  • A New Skin for the Spb Mobile Shell on the XPERIA X1
    • Probably the most useful panel on the XPERIA X1 (review) is the one for Spb Mobile Shell. It gives you quick and easy access to your programs, messaging, and system indicators. It's a free download for X1 owners, and considering the program normally costs around $30, it's a pretty good proposition.
    • Up until recently, there was just one skin option for the Mobile Shell panel. Now, we have a new choice, shown below. It fits perfectly to the WVGA screen, and works well in landscape. Plus it looks pretty sleek.
    • To get it, download the file (via the Xperiancer blog) and drop all of the files into the Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell directory of your X1. Then hit the Settings icon, click Customize Menu, and enable "My Menu." Then restart Spb Mobile Shell.

Internet

  • Getting a router to work
    • Mobile phones have a hard time connecting to various wireless security like WPA and WPA2. They do however recognize WEP encryption and hidden networks pretty well.
    • Suggestions:
  1. Disable the security (This will set your router to be public just like it was in the library)
  2. Unplug your router and modem for 30 seconds and plug them back in
  3. Reboot your X1
  4. Try connecting using WIFI
  5. If it connects and you still want security enabled
  1. If it doesn't connect go back into settings and make sure that the router LAN settings allows you to have DCHP SERVER "on"
  2. If this is on then make sure that your IP Pool Starting Address is something like 192.168.0.2 (most common) and the end is 192.168.0.100 this means that you can put 99 LAN connections to run at one time.
  1. Go back into your router settings
  2. Click on security and select WEP encryption
  3. I would just make up and easy HEX code like 1a1a1a1a1a1a1a1a1a1a1a1a1a so you can remember it, most likely nobody will get onto your network
  4. You will also need to reconnect any other computers using WIFI with this WEP code
  5. Add new connection on your X1 and input your HEX code
  6. Now try out your device
  1. If all else fails reset your router to the Factory Defaults.
  2. If none of this works you will need to invest in a new router.

  • Fix Optical Mouse in Opera Beta
    • This tip will allow you to scroll around in the new Opera beta with the optical stick like you can on the preinstalled version of Opera.
    • By default the optical stick moves between links in the beta which I hate but much prefer the beta version in terms of speed and rendering than the preinstalled version.
    • You want to go into the Opera beta folder on your phone and edit the file "input.ini." When you open the file find the section called "browser widget" and change it as shown below:
    • Change:
      • Left = navigate left
      • Right = navigate right
      • Up = navigate up
      • Down = navigate down
    • to:
      • Left = Scroll left, 1
      • Right = Scroll right, 1
      • Up = Scroll up, 10
      • Down = Scroll down, 10

Opera Browser

  • Important notes about Opera in XPERIA:
    • You can use the volume buttons to zoom in and out on a web page
    • You can set Opera as the default browser by using "Xperia Tweak" which can be downloaded here:Xperia Tweak
    • Opera is more power efficent than the current Internet Explorer
    • The latest version of Opera can be download from http://www.opera.com/mobile/

  • Remove the XPERIA X1's Permanent Signature
    • If you've got the XPERIA X1 from Sony Ericsson, you may have noticed that you can't change the email signature for your default account. Well you can change it, but as soon as you reboot, it will go back to the default "Sent from my Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1" signature.
    • In order to remove this feature, use File Explorer to browse to: My Device>Windows>Startup. Then select the file named "SignatureReplace" and choose Menu>Edit>Cut. Then browse to another folder and paste the file elsewhere, Now you can change your signature in the Messaging application and it will stay that way after a reboot.
