Device Configuration
- Configure the Omnia on AT&T
- The Samsung Omnia is turning out to be a popular phone, even for those in the US who have to pay high import prices. I've been getting a lot of emails asking how to get the Omnia running on AT&T, since it doesn't work out of the box.
- Well, here is what I’ve found to produce the best results (and remember, you can only cellular internet if you have a data plan):
- Start > Settings > Connections > Connections
- Manage existing connections
- If you see SingTel already in there, click edit. Otherwise, click New
- Put in a new name (I just used "att")
- Access point name: wap.cingular. Hit Next
- User name: wap@cingulargprs.com, password: cingular1, no domain
- Hit Finish
- That’s it! There are variations on these settings, though I found them to give me EDGE speeds of around 150kb/s as measured by dslreports mobile test, which is pretty solid.
File Transfer
- If you are trying to transfer large video files to Omnia, FIRST goto USB Connection Mode icon in Settings:Connections tab.
- CHANGE from ActiveSync to Mass Storage.
- Now under My Computer, media card shows as a drive letter. EASY & FAST transfers to media card. If you attempt to transfer large files via ActiveSync, it takes FOREVER & may give error.

Homescreen
- Quick Way to Switch Between Mouse and D-Pad on the Epix
- One of the best features of the Samsung Epix is the optical mouse. But, using the mouse disables the D-Pad. Because there are times when having the D-Pad is highly useful (like when entering text), we wanted a fast way to toggle the D-Pad/Mouse mode on the fly without digging into Settings. EpixUser tells us that you can press FN+N from the homescreen to make the change, but it will only work from that one screen.
- Well, Jared Miniman has brought us a handy piece of software that will assign a programmable key to instantly change the pointing mode whenever you need the D-Pad, in any screen, click here to get all of the details!
Internet
- Enable/Disable 3G (Epix)
- To disable 3G (and save battery life) you can navigate to the Windows folder and run a program called "Admin."
- In this program choose option 2 and then Option 3. Choose "GSM" and then Execute and then Exit. This will default to EDGE instead of 3G.
- To make this easy, create a shortcut in your Start Menu --> Programs folder.

Movies
- Improved Quality for Omnia
- If you transfer AVI or Divx video files at the usual 700MB -1.5GB sizes, they actually play BETTER than if you use converted MP4 size files. Also, because of the Omnia's screen shape, it plays larger for viewing than the Storm

Music
- Rhapsody for Omnia
- BUT, you need to reverse the above USB Connection Mode settings back to ActiveSync. The Omnia then shows up in Sources. If you leave it in Mass Storage, it freezes Rhapsody.

Ringtones
- Easy Ringtones for Omnia
- If you have a mp3 file on your memory/storage device just click and hold for a few seconds as it will pop up a menu and u can select it as ringtone. No need to physically copy to your ringtone menu as it does it all for you

Pictures
- Browse and Zoom easy:
- Use the optical dpad to browse and zoom your photos easily.
- Open PS and have at least one of your albums with thumbnails showing. With the optical pad set as a 4-way dpad swipe right to decrease the number of pics shown per row (left to increase).
- With 1 pic displayed the album title should be highlighted in blue, either swipe right once to highlight the first pic (or swipe down once then right once, maybe dependent on how the pic is displayed) then swipe right again to view the pic in zoom mode (marked by the zoom slider displayed on the right). From here you can swipe right to zoom in (left to zoom out and back to the album view again), up or down to toggle through edit and browse mode (in browse mode swipe left and right to change pic displayed, shown in a flimstrip at the bottom of screen).

Radio
- A quick enable/disable for the phones radio (for SCH-I730)
- Pressing and holding the "End call" button for three seconds will turn the phones radio off.
- Press and hold the button for another three seconds to re-enable the radio.
- Its quicker than starting the wireless manager to perform the same function.

- SGH-i780: Make a shortcut to 'New SMS'
- create a new file on your PC, let's say it's 'New SMS.txt' or download this example (need to extract and go to step 4)
- open the txt file, and type:
- 21#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -transport "SMS" -to ""
- rename 'New SMS.txt' to 'New SMS.lnk'
- copy 'New SMS.lnk' to your phone
- you can place 'NEW SMS.lnk' to Start Menu folder thus just clicking this command can directly go to composing SMS interface.
- Or, some other software replaces 2 soft keys on Today desktop with any shortcut/program link you specify. Just replace with 'NEW SMS.lnk'.
- tmail.exe is the real program which handles SMS sending etc.

Touch Player´s default album art
- If you don´t like the default pink picture that Touch Player shows:
- 1) Find these two files inside your Windows directory:
- "mediaplayer_player_defaultimg.bmp" (this is a 148x148 bitmap)
- "mediaplayer_player_defaultimg_hor.bmp" (this is a 122x122 bitmap)
- 2) Backup them!
- 3) Replace them with any other you like (try to keep the correct size for each)
- Note: make sure Touch Player is closed and not running background.

- Problems and Fixes.
- Some users report that this will cause the settings to save extremaly wrong variables and cause the loudspeaker to not work anymore. This is caused either by a audio program installed or some other application that uses sound settings... The fix (backup data) Hard Reset > The first thing you do after the hard reset is Do the Volume hack. Then restore your backup data and install any programs. Remember that if you want to change your settings again you may run into the same problems again.
