Calls
- Turn on Speaker Phone Easy
- Long-pressing the 'CALL' hardware key turns on the speakerphone without having to touch the screen at all.
- For example, during a call, you can long-press the call key to turn on the speakerphone. This will save you time from turning on your screen (if you have it auto turned off) and then find the speakerphone menu button.

- No More Missed Calls
- go to the phone application-- Settings>>Services>>call forwarding and set the time to what you want!
- this way the calls are going to "wait"/delayed longer before being forwarded to the voice mail giving us more time to answer.
- a more drastic solution is renouncing at the phone pad skin and reverting it to the original (hideous) WM skin.

- Shorten time/ number of rings to answer on HTC Touch
- You may have noticed that when someone calls you it may take several rings on their end before the Touch begins to ring. The reason for this delay is the “slot cycle index,” or how often your Touch polls the towers for an incoming call. Default appears to be about 5 seconds—way to long. Of course, s always, there is a compromise to be made—the more often it polls the tower, the more power it uses. ***Anyway here is the hack. To do this, you will need your MSL number, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you.
- Open up the phone app and dial ##778# (PST).
- You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone.
- From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2 (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2, but lowering it to 1 hasn't noticeably affected my battery life, and roughly 2.5 second (SCI 1) response time is far more reasonable than roughly 5 seconds (SCI 2).
- For Touch Diamond and Touch Pro users,
- Type ##3282# (##DATA#)
- Select Edit
- Enter MSL code
- At bottom left, select View Info > Advanced
- Locate and Select Slot Cycle Index
- At bottom right, select Menu > Edit
- Change Slot Cycle Index as mentioned above
- Select Menu > Ok to save
- Mute Ringtone (call) on HTC Touch Diamond
- Mute the ring tone by simply turning the phone upside down without pressing the mute button in the phone window. You can still continue to answer the call.

- How To Record Phone Calls on Touch Pro/Diamond
- A lot of HTC users have been missing the ability to record phone calls while in a call (without having to use speakerphone). The ability to do this can be a time saver, especially when your significant other sends you on a grocery run with a list of items--you can quickly record that part of the conversation.
- The great folks at XDA-Developers are at it again, porting the in-call recording functions from the Touch HD to the HTC Fuze and Touch Pro. The installer also works with the Touch Diamond.

Changing the Buttons
- If you are not using your Camera or Voice dial very often you can make a better use of these or the other buttons on your phone when you go to Settings-Buttons and assign a different program to them.

Ending Programs
- By default, when you hit the X button in the top right of your screen, you close the program window but the process still remains running in the background. This takes up valuable resources. Here are three ways to close applications without using the task manager on your TouchFlo and TouchFlo 3D phones.
- Tap "X" while in the app to hide the process window. Tap on the icon in the top right of the screen of your home screen to open the task manager. Then hit the X of the process you want to kill.
- Go to the task manager like in (1)>click the little wrench icon>click 'Button' at the bottom of the screen>select the "End Programs By Tapping 'X'" radio button. Choosing this allows you to actually kill an app by hitting it's X button in the program window. With this setting on, if you don't want to kill the app but want to hide it instead, hit the 'Home' hardware button to minimize the app and go to your home screen. Only when you want to kill the app should you now hit the "X"
- If you don't want to mess with settings and want to do things the way HTC intended you to do it, you'll be happy to know that by default, although you can't close apps by tapping the "X" key, you CAN close apps by tapping AND holding down the "X" key of the program window. This is the way you were meant to close apps in your WinMo 6.1 device.

- How to get Android to Show Album Art
- Since the T-Mobile G1 does not come with any type of media player syncing software that you install on your desktop, you're kind of on your own for figuring that out. It turns out the G1 is recognized in Windows Media Player as a USB mass storage device and you can set up automatic syncing of playlists just like you would on Windows Mobile.
- Unfortunately, album art is not synced, unless it has already been embedded in the MP3 ID meta tags. The solution is very similar to what we had to do to get HTC's TouchFLO 3D to display album art. A better way, which maintains syncing capabilities, is found here:
- Use WMP to update album info. This would eventually add album art.
- Download Mp3tag at http://www.mp3tag.de/en
- Install and start Mp3tag
- Press CTRL+D (Change Directory) and browse to your music folder
- Press CTRL+A to select all files
- Click the "Actions (Quick)" icon on the toolbar
- Select "Import cover from file"
- Type "Folder.jpg" and click OK
- Wait until complete and sync to your device
- If you have previously synced, then the album art would stay as delete the HTC folder in Application Data folder on your device and restart your device

- Adding Color to TouchFLO 3D
- If you have an HTC-branded Touch Diamond and are on O2 or Vodafone and want the custom themes from your carriers, or conversely if you have a carrier theme and want the default HTC theme for TouchFLO 3D, then you can change it. XDA-Developers has created three theme packages for HTC, O2, and Vodafone. You can follow the instructions on the XDA-Developers thread and change your theme to either add color or change it back to basic black. In order to do this, you do need the Diamond Config utility we previously reported on.

- Automatic Screen Rotation
- Although the iPhone made automatic screen roation using its motion sensors popular, it had limitations on which apps had the rotation feature. This is an area where the Diamond shines. This hack does not work with the Touch Pro as the Touch Pro will base most of its screen rotation on the sliding keyboard instead. For the Diamond, you can use the screen rotation feature on most applications, if not all, which is initiated by turning your device and activating the motion sensors.

- Easy TouchFlo 3D Modding
- mun_rus and D-MAN from XDA Developers started tweaking HTC’s Manila, aka TouchFlo 3D, to suit people’s needs, so this one applies to Diamond and Touch Pro users only. One of the biggest annoyances of TF3D was its lack of handling custom wallpapers on all tabs, the default behavior only changes the home screen’s wallpaper. After installing the TF3D wallpaper utility, your custom wallpaper will be enabled for all Manila tabs (fig. 1), just make sure to disable TF3D as a today item in settings before you install it.

- Download Manila CommManager Tab, make sure you disable TouchFLO 3D from Settings, Today, install the add-on to DEVICE, soft reset and reenable Manila. You’re all set!

- TouchFLO 3D, Where's My Today Screen?
- TouchFLO 3D provides some innovative features that lets you have quick access to your email, weather, contacts, SMS, and limited agenda viewing. This means that some classic Windows Mobile users will miss the Today screen, which allows you to view more upcoming appointments and the ease of customizing the Today screen with quick launch icons and a Live search bar. If you're in that category, WMPowerUser showed off a quick way to access the classic Today screen with a quick gesture swipe. The innovative hack is done via a file, which can be downloaded from XDA-Developers. If you love the animation of TouchFLO 3D but miss the classic utility of the Today screen, you should install the tweak from XDA-Developers.

- Bell, a carrier from Cananda, has created an interface for the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro (see this flash demo) that has a similar concept to TouchFLO 3D, but is much better in my opinion. - In addition to finger/stylus flicking/scrolling through the tabs and items in the TouchFLO 3D interface of the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro, you can use the D-Pad to navigate through its contents.
- Using the Left/Right arrows, you can switch from one tab to the other easily and by using the Up/Down arrows, you can enter navigation inside that certain TouchFLO 3D tab. For instance, pushing the Right button three times takes you to the Mail tab and once you’re there, you can push the Down button to browse through your e-mail messages. D-Pad center acts like the “Enter tap” key and it will open your current selected item for reviewing/editing.

- You can easily navigate back one page at a time by using the Back Hardware button on the Touch HD or even the Touch Diamond/Touch Pro. Each touch/press of the button will navigate you one page back, so you’d spare two taps.

Locking
- HTC Touch Pro (or any SensorLock users) Lock/Unlock Tip!
- For if you accidentally when receiving a call to physically spin to unlock the phone then answer it.
- To fix it, go into the Start then Settings, you'll find a SensorLock settings button that gets installed with the application (you have to soft reset if you just installed the program). In there, you can actually have the program lock the screen but not the buttons when the phone is on.
- Therefore, if you have an incoming call, you can't accidentally hit the screen to accept without spinning to unlock the phone. However, you can just hit the accept or reject hard buttons. So, to summarize, your phone's hard buttons will not do anything when the phone is off, but when the phone is on and locked, they will work.

Music
- How to get TouchFLO 3D to Show Your Album Art
- Using Windows Media player to synchronize music to your device is probably the easiest way to manage music in playlists while also getting album art to display in the Windows Mobile Media Player. Not to mention, with the automatic WMA conversion features, you can get 8 Gigs worth of MP3s to fit on 4 Gigs of storage like that of the HTC Touch Diamond.
- The Windows Media Player syncing method also happens to be recommended in the Touch Diamond’s Quick Start Guide and Windows Mobile’s Getting Started guide on the device itself. When Windows Media Player on the desktop converts and copies music to your device, it creates the proper folder structure and includes the album art as a JPG image file that’s stored in the same album folder as each track. This allows the media player software to re-use the same image for each track in that album.
- The problem is that HTC’s Touch FLO 3D audio manager does not read those JPG files. So if you want to use the cool Today screen flippy 3D media player, you’re not going to see any album art. As it turns out, HTC’s audio manager reads the album art from each audio file’s embedded image metadata tags. Even if your MP3s on your desktop already include album art embedded into each file’s metadata, the artwork will not carry over after being converted by WMP’s syncing process. The artwork will instead be converted to the separate JPG format (so that WM Media Player can read them).

- Get Album Art (easy way):
- Make sure that your mp3 file has an artist album photos on your PC
- Transfer your mp3 songs by using "sync" function in your desktop Windows Media Player.
- Click and drop the mp3 songs that you want to transfer into the "sync list" in your windows media player
- Hit the "start sync" button
- Of try adding album art to the TF3D music player by creating a jpg image of the album art and copy it to the folder with the music files, save it as folder.jpg and soft reset your phone. The album art should now be there!

- Assigning the Best Quality Photos to Contacts in TouchFLO 3D
- TouchFLO 3D has a really great way of displaying contacts so that you can easily flip through pictures of people you call often like a Rolodex. But, if you just press the "+" button on one of the blank contact slides and assign a contact that already has a picture associated with it, the picture comes out very blurry and pixelated.
- How do you get a clearer picture? First, be sure you have the picture you want loaded on a storage card or on your device. Then, fire up Album from the Programs list. Select the photo you want, hit the right Menu button, and do Save to Contact (top screenshot). The resulting thumbnail will be much clearer.

- It didn't take the guys at XDA long, but they have extracted the ROMs from the upcoming Touch Pro2 and Diamond2 and are showing it running on an HTC Touch HD. Some screenshots are shown below, which give us a more detailed look at the new HTC software coming on the new devices. Though these aren't likely the final shipping ROMs, they look to be darn close.
- The new ROM shows the conference call feature, the new internet tab, the updated program launcher, new soft key menus, and lots more. If you want an earlier preview of some of these in action, check out our Touch Pro2 and Diamond2 Software Preview (reposted below). We don't recommend that you try installing a modified ROM.
Scrolling
- For best scrolling, use a wide portion of your finger or thumb to scroll instead of the tips of your fingers. The larger area you take up on the screen the easier it is to swipe up and down. if you use the tip or fingernail it thinks you are selecting the area where you tapped on the screen.
Speakerphone
- Touch Pro2-like Face-down Speakerphone Behaviour for Accelerometer Devices
- We've seen the videos of Touch Pro2 and it's speakerphone on face down. XDA Developers bring similar functionality to the Touch Diamond, Touch Pro or Touch HD.
- You'll need Gyrator up and running to configure it as follows:
- tap on the soft key that says "Menu" and select Events
- a new window will pop up. Tap & Hold on the topmost item in the list, a menu will pop up
- select "Add Event". A new entry -labled "New Rule"- will appear at the top of the list.
- tap & Hold on the item labled "New Rule" until a menu pops up where you select "Orientation"
- tap & Hold on the "New Rule" itemm, select "Edit Event"
- a new window will pop up and will have a number of tabs at the bottom.
- set application to Phone on the "Application" tab.
- on the "Orientation" tab check on "Portrait", "Face-down", and "Face-up".
- on the "Actions" tab check on "Simulate Keypress".
- go to "Advanced" tab and select key "F16,127" which triggers the windows-native "Speakerphone Toggle event".
Synching
- Sync only on command
- Start Active Sync on your Pocket PC.
- Tap "Menu", then "Add Server Source"
- Configure a server source with a fake IP address, id and password - you can enter anything you like, it doesn't matter
- After that you will notice that "Menu -> Schedule..." item is no longer grayed out.
- Change your schedule to manual under both fields.
- You can now delete your fake server - your changes to the schedule will remain in effect. Active Sync will no longer be able to drain your battery.

Text/Texting/Typing
- Names in SMS
- If you receive new SMS messages, usually you only see the sender's number on the TouchFLO Messages tab, even if you've got his/her mobile number on the contacts list (All People).
- To see the name of the contact in new message header, you have to add international prefix to the calling number, for example in my case if my number is 5X XX XXX, then add +372 5X XX XXX.

- Faster Typing (For HTC 6800 (and others))
- When typing with the slide-out-keyboard you will see several words appear as you put in the first letter or two (depending on your settings). You can then use the arrow keys/d-pad/scroll wheel to select a word in the list. Here's the tip: Once you've highlighted the word you want don't click on it. Just continue typing. The selected word will be placed into the text and the next word or punctuation will follow.
- Not actively clicking on the word saves a second each time and makes for much smoother typing.

- XDA Developers have learned that there is a possibility to increase the space responsible for displaying e-mail message contents in TouchFLO 3D, by replacing two Manila files.
- Toggle accounts
- On all Windows Mobile devices, you can quickly toggle between messaging accounts (MMS/SMS/Email/etc) by pressing the right or left D-Pad while in one of the accounts.
- What some may not know is that on HTC devices with TouchFLO (like the original Touch, the Touch Diamond and Pro, etc), you can swipe your finger right or left to move between accounts, as shown in the image below. Also, if you're viewing a message in Outlook and swipe your finger in the same manner, the next message will come on the screen.

- How to Get Landscape Keyboard on the Touch HD
- In addition to using applications which use the build-in accelerometer on the HTC Touch HD (like GSen, GNes, Flip-It, Gyrator and so on), there is another way to getting landscape keyboard on the Blackstone, which doesn’t involve any other application install.
- First thing you need to do is find a way to control your screen orientation. Accelerometer enabled devices have the orientation tab hidden from the Screen settings, so if this is your case, you can unhide them with Advanced Configuration Tool or you can read Adam's take on re-enabling orientation settings.
- Here’s a simple way to control orientation. You need to go to Start, Settings, Personal, Buttons and change the preconfigured action of the Answer Key to "Rotate Screen". This way your screen will rotate when you tap and hold the green button. From this point on, it’s very simple. Hold the button whenever you want to go landscape, let it be Excel, Word or any other app (except Opera, which will use auto orientation) and the keyboard will follow orientation.

- A Faster Way to Enter Numbers and Symbols
- Although this may be obvious to many, I admittedly just learned about this feature a few weeks ago, so perhaps it'll be helpful to some.
- On all HTC on screen keyboards, there are numbers and symbols that appear above the letters in gray. Instead of hitting the "123/Sym" button to call them up, you can just simply tap and hold on any letter to get the one in gray to show up.

- How to Switch Between Multiple Video Aspect Ratios in Album Player
- On your HTC Touch Diamond, Touch Pro (or variants) and Touch HD, as well as on devices featuring HTC's Album Player, several supported videos (like 3GP, WMV, MP4) play back through this particular HTC Album Player. Playing back files this way, you’d notice that the video played back fills the screen, but is missing some parts of the movie.
- Tap the video and the HTC Album Player controls pop up, with the time and progress display and various buttons: Previous, Play/Pause, Stop and the Aspect ratio button on the far right. Tapping on this particular button will cycle through three video playback modes: zoom to fill (default, which will zoom in to the video height and fill the entire screen), stretch to fit (which will stretch the entire video - distorting it - so it fills up the whole screen) and normal (which plays it back maintaining the aspect ratio, so you’ll probably notice the top and bottom black bars besides the full video). You might not see any changes though if your video’s aspect rate is the same as your device’s display (aka 1.33 or 4:3 for VGA and QVGA and 1.66 or 16:10 for WQVGA and WVGA).

- Put YouTube Back On Your Fuze
- My friend has the AT&T HTC Fuze, the variant of the Touch Pro that has been modified for AT&T. The main differences between the AT&T and the unbranded HTC version are AT&T's choice of software and keyboard layout, forgoing the dedicated number row (as traditional on most desktop keyboards) and opting to go with a number pad where you have to push a function button and the number. I noticed that the Fuze does not have YouTube Player on the application menu nor on the TouchFLO 3D menu interface like my Touch Pro does, but the good news is that the Player is there and all you need to do is enable it.

Word
- Find your important .doc files to work with (instead of when you open Word Mobile and it lists all txt, rtf, etc by default)
- Set it to only list .doc files, going into menu-options in Word Mobile and then in the "Display in list view" drop down menu, select word files, then ok.
- This way you get to the files you have to edit regularly for work easily, while I access the rest of files through another program (ubook, an e-book reader) because it is more dedicated for reading-only purposes.
