We’ve been teased with the development of multi-touch for (single-touch) resistive screens for quite a while. A couple of months ago, a Dual-Touch SDK was finally released on XDA, which brought us closer to realizing the dream, and now it seems one developer has taken it a step further by putting it to good use.
OndraSter has released a video showing that he’s achieved pinch to zoom functions in Opera Mobile 9.7 – using an HTC Touch Pro2 and its resistive screen. He claims it works in HTC Album as well and actually goes on to state that “it should work in theory in any application.” As you can see in the video, you must fix one finger on the screen and pinch inwards/outwards with the other in order to zoom in or out. It’s clearly not true multi-touch, but it’s an amazing workaround all things considered. The hack will be out within a week. Check out the video below to see it for yourself.
