How to Restore Owner Information Icon in WM6.5 Settings

We've got a word from Craigus that some WM6.5 users might run into problems with registering their commercial software due to the rare case of missing Owner Information icon in Windows Mobile 6.5 Settings. WM6.1 had that under Start, Settings, Personal and it was the place to enter information about the device, such as Name, Email, Address, Phone number and most applications could be registered via a key generated from the Owner Name. Not having that makes it impossible to register. We show you two ways of getting back the icon.

So, in the rare case that you don’t have it, here's what you can do:

One of the easiest ways to get back the Owner Information icon is to start a Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Owner and remove the redirect. (You can also remove redirects from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Buttons and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Input).

The other way is to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Owner and create a new DWord called "Hide" (without the quotes) and set its value to 0. If you already have this, change the value from 1 to 0. This instructs the system to unhide the icon. Soft reset your device to apply settings.
