Get Xperia X2 Panel Manager & Panels on HTC Touch Pro2

Early last month, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 panel system was hacked to work on the Touch Pro2 and other devices with WVGA screens. Users of these devices were finally able to enjoy the glorious fish panel, but other compatible panels were limited. Unfortunately, it was also slow to load. Many users were hoping to see the newer X2 panel manager available for other devices soon. Well, the Xperia X2 ROM was recently dumped and dissected. As a result, we now have a new panel manager for the Touch Pro2.

Ark_N has put together a package that enables Touch Pro2 users to run the X2 panel manager and select panels on their devices. Unlike the hacked X1 panel manger, the X2 manager activates with a nice rotating animation upon screen tap. This allows for a smoother transition when switching between panels.

A couple new panels are compatible with the refreshed panel manager, the most notable being the Tilewave panel. This panel has useful features and sports a fluid wave-like animation throughout the interface. With Tilewave, you have access to your alarm, appointments, tasks, weather, messages, contacts, and default web browser. There’s even a built-in calculator and RSS reader. The facebook panel seems to be fully functional with this hack as well, which is a definite plus. I couldn’t get the city night and growing panels to work, although they’re included in the screenshots displayed by Ark_N.

Installation is simple. Download the ZIP file from HTCPedia, extract and install the files to device memory. Each CAB is numbered and should be installed in that order. It should ask you to soft reset too. After you’re done installing the main files, look through the provided “panels” folder and install the ones you wish to use. A final soft reset may be required if tapping on the panel manager shortcut in your start menu does not work.

Note: this was posted in a Touch Pro2 forum, though it may work on other (similar) WVGA devices. As a precaution, please backup your device before installing any hacks.
