Android Nearly Makes It to VGA Diamond

Not yet ready for primetime, but the good folks over at XDA-Developers have concocted a way to bring the Android operating system, which powers the HTC-made T-Mobile G1 currently, over to the VGA-enabled Touch Diamond also manufactured by HTC. Since the Diamond and the Touch Pro are nearly identical, except the latter has a sliding keyboard, it would only be a matter of time before the Android port will be compatible on the Touch Pro as well.

According to WMPowerUser, the VGA-port is only proof of concept at this point, with some kinks to be ironed out before a public release. You can also see the development over at the thread at XDA-Developers.

Previously, Android was ported over to the original HTC Touch. However, that concept saw a more limited release as it was done on a CDMA Touch, whereas much of the world relies on GSM for cellular technology. The new port to the Touch Diamond also increases the resolution as the original Touch only supported QVGA whereas the Touch Diamond uses a VGA screen.
