The T-Mobile Dash was one of those phones that people were inexplicably attracted to, despite its lackluster specifications (200MHz processor, no 3G, no GPS, etc). It felt good in the hand and exhibited good performance.
So why wasn’t there a Dash 2? Why is T-Mobile selling the same device after almost 2 years?
Many thought that the HTC Cavalier S630 to be the successor to the original Dash. It has the same form factor, but adds a faster processor and 3G (heck, it even has T-Mobile’s UMTS2100 band). But because the Cavalier turned out to be a dud (buggy with hardware quality issues), not to mention T-Mobile’s 3G network wasn’t ready when the Cavalier first came out the door, the Cavalier never came to life as the Dash 2.
Which doesn’t mean that we won’t see a Dash 2, but considering that HTC hasn’t announced any new QWERTY candy-bar devices (and T-Mobile only gets its WinMo phones from HTC), it’s not likely we’ll an extension of the Dash brand.
