There haven’t been many smartphones to come with kickstands. The HTC Imagio and EVO 4G come to mind. But it’d be great to see more smartphones come with this handy feature in the future. Why? Here are five uses for a smartphone kickstand (which can also be replicated with a homemade stand):

Here’s the most obvious use of a kickstand: video-watching. Newer devices have screens large enough to provide a very pleasant viewing experience for movies, YouTube videos, or whatever else you’re watching.

Most smartphones have a desk clock function that shows you the time. Some even will provide you with more information like the weather. The kickstand positions the phone at the ideal angle to keep your smartphone next to your bed or desk.

If you can find a way to securely prop up your smartphone on the dashboard with the kickstand extended, you can have a great little navigation system to help you get where you are going.

Using the slideshow function on your smartphone, you can use your device as a digital photo frame, perfect for when you have company over.

Other uses for a smartphone kickstand include: keeping your agenda in front of you at work, using speakerphone when on a call, and staying updated with social media.
