Three Reason the Touch HD is Coming to the US, But with Android

There are speculations abound that the second Android device, dubbed the G2 (as reported by BGR), will actually be the Touch HD. And this makes a lot of sense. Here are three reasons why:

1. The Touch HD passed the FCC back in September (though oddly the filing is no longer available online). And don’t forgot that the service manual for the Touch HD is showing proper US bands

2. It’s no secret that the Touch HD would be a huge hit in the US – its massive screen and sexy design seems to be captivating to many…HTC would have a hit on their hands. We can’t count the number of emails we get from readers wondering if and when the HD is coming to America

3. The form factor makes sense for Android. Android has been promised to be available in a variety of form factors going forward – and we’re also due to see an on-screen keyboard option appear in an upcoming software update next year. Going with a slate-like Touch HD form factor that has an onscreen keyboard would be a great evolution for the platform, and would appeal to prospective iPhone/Omnia buyers

That said, HTC has yet to release a device and sell it with two different operating systems, so they’d be entering uncharted waters and could be compromising their reputation as “the” Windows Mobile OEM. That said, it could give Americans access to the phone that they so badly want, but with an operating system that is getting more buzz these days than Windows Mobile.
