Sprint’s Big Treo 800w Push

In effort to revitalize their brand, Sprint has been spending huge amounts of money advertising over the last year or so (web, print, TV, etc). Their campaigns have featured their EVDO network, the Instinct, the $99 Everything plan, and now, as of a few days ago, the Palm Treo 800w, their new flagship business device.

The campaign for the Treo 800w features animated blackish-blue ads (as shown below)…touting that with the 800w, you can “take on the world with both thumbs.” Verbs used to describe the 800w include “Outmaneuver” and “Outperform,” and the alliteration finishes up with an announcement: “Out Now.” Generally, I think that ads are well done – and make the 800w look like a compelling business device.

I have to wonder if all of this publicity is doing anything to increase new subscribers, or if it’s just helping to get existing customers try new products and services on the Sprint Network. The jury is still out about Q2 subscriber numbers, but in Q1, their advertising efforts weren’t enough to stop over 1 million subscribers from leaving the carrier. Ouch.
