Rumor: Amazon Kindle Update Coming This Week

Amazon’s press event this Wednesday has garnered speculation of a larger screen Kindle that will be more suitable for newspaper and magazine content. The wireless and WiFi enabled ebook reader has done relatively well in the space, making books more affordable at just under $10 for most book downloads. However, it was criticized due to its small screen size in reading newspapers and magazines.

Even if the Kindle gets a larger screen, as reported by Gizmodo, magazine publishers still aren’t happy as the magazine experience requires a bit of color, a technology which has been brewing in research labs but hasn’t made it to the consumer electronics space yet.

We had previously reviewed the first generation Kindle and found it to be a fine device. Amazon is currently on its second generation Kindle with more refined styling, but not revolutionary changes. While Wednesday’s announcement is rumored to be with a big-screen Kindle, Amazon has already got the little screens covered as well. The firm has brought the Kindle software to the iPhone and is committed to bringing ebooks to smartphones.
