Poll: Does Your Touch Pro2 Exhibit GPS Lag?

File under: News

There are comments and discussions at several internet sites exploring the issue of GPS lag on the Touch Pro2--in unlocked form and from various carriers. I've personally tried two CDMA Touch Pro2s, from Sprint and from Verizon Wireless, and noticed that there was a bit of lag on both models when using third-party apps. There was, however, no lag when the CDMA Touch Pro2 was used with their respective companion GPS subscription services--either Sprint Navigator (a rebrand of the TeleNav service) or Verizon Navigator (a proprietary navigation service developed by Verizon Wireless).

Do you experience GPS lag? Tell us in the poll and leave us your comments!

In my testing with TomTom Navigator 7, I find that the lag was a bit worse on the Verizon Wireless model, taking up to ten seconds to reroute and displaying my location at least three or four blocks behind where I already am. Sprint's model exhibited lag as well and although it was a bit better it's still not useful for GPS navigating. What is interesting, however, is that voice guidance was still spot on--it was the maps that showed delay.

After contacting TomTom support, they had told me to uninstall and reinstall the software, to which I did, and I still experienced the same lag. HTC's PR people told me that it may be a software issue and that they wouldn't be able to help with third-party software. I would hope that this is a software issue since that's a lot easier to fix than a hardware issue.

For GSM users (please don't try this if you're a CDMA user), there is a patch that you can download over at XDA-Developers that may help to offer some relief.
