Poll: Are Mobile-Formatted Websites Dead?

A lot of mobile-related sites such as pocketnow.com have a mobile version.. They are “light” versions that have stripped down graphics to allow for quicker page loads and better viewing on a small screen. If you access pocketnow.com via Pocket IE, you will see the mobile version automatically, but if you access the site in Opera Mobile, you’ll see the desktop version.

Mobile-formatted websites were all the rage before the days of high speed data connections and full web browsers like Opera Mobile, Skyfire, and Safari. They were a necessity. But now that you can get the full internet on your phone with fast speeds, we wonder if mobile-formatted websites are now a thing of the past, or if people still prefer to have a “light” experience on their mobile device.

What do you think?
