Multitouch is Just a Gimmick

Is multitouch on touch screen phones really useful or is it just a gimmick? I’ve tried multi-touch on the iPhone and recently the Palm Pre. I suppose it’s nice with those little games that you play when trying to pass the time, but at least on the Palm Pre there isn’t much use for it. It looks cool when you can pinch and push the photos or maps, but if I’m using a mobile device while being mobile, a one-handed user interface is best. With the Palm Pre, double tapping does a much better job of zooming in Google Maps, Web Browser, and Photos since I can do it with one hand while holding the device.

What do you think? Is multi-touch the next killer feature on mobile phones or is it better for larger screen devices like tablets and Surface tables? Let us know in the comments.
