HTC Diamond2 Video Performance Compared
We talk about WVGA now when it comes to modern devices as it is "as big as" Windows Mobile allows it to grow, and the top 3 WVGA devices to date are the new HTC Diamond2, the HTC Touch HD and the Sony Ericsson Xperia - which is also an HTC make, if some of you had questions.
We've put the three to a basic video playback test using Coreplayer and a movie trailer (560x304 pixel H.263 FLV). As you can see, the winner is the HTC Diamond2 by a little more than 15%. The difference between the three is rather imperceptible to the human eye (maybe except for the Xperia which scored under 100%, stuttering and choking every now and then) but it makes a real difference when using different formats with different file and canvas sizes.
Note 1: For your reference, the HTC Touch Diamond, which is a VGA device, but the predecessor to the Diamond2 scored a tremendous 136.37%, making it a close competitor.
Note 2: We chose not to test WVGA H.264 reencoded videos even though processors support acceleration for these formats as there would have not been a real standard to measure the performance for the devices.
